Particularities
The Basenji is a compact dog of lightweight construction. He has a fine bone structure and is elegant, a bit like a horse. It is high on legs in relation to its length. The breed standard measures 16" to 17" from ground to shoulders for females (40 cm) and 17" to 18" for males (43 cm). There are 4 types of colours: red and white (the most common), tricolour (black, tan, white), black and white and brindle.
All Basenjis have a wrinkled forehead and should have white on their feet, chest and tail tips. They also have very straight ears and their eyes are almond-shaped, arranged obliquely. Their hair is very short; it moultes, but very little. Basenji does not have this "dog smell". Its tail is set high and winds in a single or double loop over the spine. The adult female generally weighs around 20 lbs and the male 25 lbs.
